Between 2004 and 2014 a lone male offender labelled by the media as the ‘Hills Bandit’ or the ‘Bicycle Bandit’ committed a series of 11 armed bank robberies targeting Adelaide Hills branches. Operation Coy was implemented within Serious & Organised Crime Branch to investigate this series.
In 2023, following the successful application of Forensic Investigative Genetic Genealogy (FIGG), Kym Allen Parsons was identified as the offender. Parsons was ultimately convicted, forfeited the total amount stolen and received a cumulative head sentence of 85 years imprisonment (reduced to 35 years).
Detective Senior Sergeant Danny Gillan and Detective Brevet Sergeant Adrian Moulds will present the story of the unmasking of the bandit and the strategy maintained following his arrest.
